THE HOLY MOUNTAINS - ST. SEBASTIAN AND FABIAN
Location: Bistrica ob Sotli
Category: Sacral objects
Above Mary's church stands a chapel dedicated to St. Sebastian and Fabian, yet often also called Boštjan’s chapel. Supposedly built in the 1st half of the 15th century, it was initially a single building, but during the 16th century an open shack was built on its side. This chapel also has a bell-tower, but without the bell.
The interior of the chapel is decorated with gothic and baroque frescoes, among which the most interesting are the scenes with plague patients and people praying for them with the Lord our Farther, a depiction of a big city with a tower and city-walls and the depiction of Torture of St. Sebastian. The paintwork goes on depicting figures of kneeling donators and an image of St. Helena. Under the visible frescoes hides another layer of older wall-images, created around 1452. Inventory-wise, only a golden altar from 1662 has been preserved, but is currently placed in the Lourdes Chapel- only the stone base remains here.
