THE HOMESTEADS AT TREBEŽE
Location: Bistrica ob Sotli
Category: Architectural and ethnological heritage
On Križan Vrh is a hamlet of four homesteads named Trebeže. The hamlet is ellipse-shaped and is an outstanding indicator of rural living culture and identity. All the homesteads originate from the middle of the 19th century. Aside from the residential buildings, each has an outbuilding and some, more recently constructed, additional complementary buildings. Their common area is characterized by two water-wells.
The homesteads carry old folk names: on the south-eastern part of the clustered settlement is the Homestead “At Lovrenc’s” (“Pri Lovrencu), on the eastern part is the Homestead “At Bostner’s” (“Pri Bostnerju”), in the centre is the Homestad “At Smisel’s” (“Pri Smislu”) and on western side is the Homestead “At Petrek’s” (“Pri Petreku”).
Despite its precious and unique role as a memorial of a past living culture, the hamlet Trebeže has almost no useful function left, with its buildings more or less at the mercy of the elements and under constant deterioration. View at your own risk.
