About
MARGARET, ZAGAJ
Location: Bistrica ob Sotli
Category: Skulptures, monuments and memorials
The memorial above Virje in Zagaj once consisted of a monolith pillar and a statue, which was supposed to represent the kneeling St. Margaret. Today, the lower part of the pillar is preserved, while the upper part, after the memorial was torn down, mysteriously disappeared. The pillar is the slimmest of all pillars, with the upper part being simply mounted on the lower part.
On the pillar is an inscription: Aggnes Tioned Ellabv 1765 HIS, while depicted in the lower embossment is The Crucified in a trefoil niche.
