POLITICAL SCHOOL
Location: Kumrovec
Category: Architectural and ethnological heritage
Building of political school in Kumrovec was built in 1981 with money from the communist party membership fee. Political School originally opened in the home of Liberation War Veterans (Memorial Centre) in 1975, while it later moved to another building due to the need for more space. The building was designed as a "campus" because it had all the necessary infrastructure, such as restaurants, theaters, classrooms, rooms, sports hall, sports field, atomic shelters, libraries, printing, conference halls, etc. The main advocate for the construction of schools was Joseph Broz Tito. His plan for the building was it to be central educational institution for personnel at League of Communists of Yugoslavia. Political School operated from 1975 to 1990, until that type of education was no longer needed. During the war of independence in the Political School were housed refugees from Vukovar who stayed until 2011. In the building during the war was established elite unit of the Croatian Army "Frankopan". Among refugees that temporary lived in the building was Dario Kresic, a successful Croatian footballer who plays as a goalkeeper.
