Izidor Žiga Popijač is self-taught sculptor born on January 2. 1947. in Bednja, in the village Popijač. Today, in Kumrovec has a house, studio and gallery. After finishing school Isidore goes to Slovenia, in Ptuj, where it learns to be a photographer. In 1966. he received a degree in photography. After his father's death he returned to help his old mother. Ziga then turns from photography to sculpting. His talent for sculpting was spotted early in elementary school. The main materials used in his work are clay and black oak, which Ziga gets from regulation of river Bednja. Izidor Žiga Popijač had exhibitions in Croatia and around the world. He has over a hundred exhibitions and about his life has been filmed several documentaries. As a versatile artist, he is also a musician.
